Director
About My Directing
I have always loved the way stories fit together. I first studied directing in college and have had the priviledge of working with a number of highly skilled and creative directors in the industry. I began to shape my own philosophy as a director early in my career and it always centered around the philosophy that People Matter Most. Beloved theatre director, Paul Weidner once told me that directing is like throwing the perfect dinner party. He explained that when you get the right people at the party and they all feel like valued guests, the experience will be wonderful, no matter the challenges. Being directed by Paul in a production of You Never Can Tell at the Asolo Rep proved to be every bit as wonderful as he had promised. I have also been greatly influenced by my hometown hero, George C. Wolfe. A true Artist-Entreprenuer, Wolfe’s directing philosophy of preparing the perfect play for the perfect audience (Theater of War, Dir. John Walter, 2008) has inspired me to always keep the audience as a priority.
As a director, I have worked for various organizations developing and producing content. Returning to my first love, the theatre, has provided me countless opportunities to collaborate in non-commercial environments where experimentation and creativity can be among the most important outcomes. Recent directing credits at Elon University include The Wolves, the university premiere of Moment by Deirdre Kinahan, Trojan Barbie by Christine Evans; staged readings of Clown Bar 2 by Adam Symkowicz and The Love Code by Kate Leslie and a world premier workshop of The Inferior Sex, by Jacqueline Lawton.
I am also an Assistant Faculty for Theatrical Intimacy Education, an organization dedicated to training and equipping theatre professionals and students in best practices for theatrical intimacy work. I have led workshops and choreographed for stage and screen in university and professional environments across the country.
